Closed question, then: would any other developed nation accept the weekly mass shootings? Whether Obama is a "credible source" has little impact on that sort of concept, surely.

Again, you're relying on a quote from a man who has habitually lied. Too many accept numbers from our president without the slightest bit of skepticism.

First, he (and others) have been throwing around a statistic that there have been 74 Newtown-like school shootings since December 2012. The actual number is far lower and amounts to about one every four to five weeks.

Now - that number is still tragic and horrible. But if roughly 15 have truly occurred since Newtown, and if 15 is high, then why inflate an already high number? Answer: as a pretext to achieve political control. It just makes the source look incredibly dishonest and untrustworthy.

Here's another stat that's been verified and very compelling: gun ownership in the U.S. is higher than ever, yet per capita murder rate has reduced by about half since 1991 (from 9.8 per 100,000 to 4.7 per 100,000)

Now - here's a statistic that the president whom you frequently quote will NEVER cite: while there is still a large problem of gang/drug-related murders in the city of Chicago, the murder rate dropped significantly after Illinois passed carry-conceal laws. While the evidence at a national level on the value of carry conceal laws is hard to tell, it made a huge difference in Chicago.

Bottom line: the president is on the wrong side of the facts.
