But they're not subject to the same terms as commercial borrowers. Student loans are a different animal, thus, different terms.

Also, when a lender refinances a loan for less they are accepting less revenue in exchange for less risk of default. They are not taxing the "rich" to offset the difference. ;)

They agreed to the terms, signed up for the loan, spent the money, got their education and now are on the hook for what they agreed to. Sounds fair to me.

Slapping the "Buffet Rule" on there and somehow staging this as "Billionaires v. Students" is political grandstanding. If Warren really gave a crap about the students she'd propose a bill which allows refinancing of student loans in the private sector. I guarantee that banks would line up for the chance to finance loans with those repayment terms at more flexible rates and schedules and the government wouldn't have to see any revenue loss. Win-win.
