Thanks for the reasoned explanation. Alas my knowledge is limited, so I cannot act the contrarian- especially when I agree that extremism is unnatural and self-defeating, as you say. Also I'd observe that there was a time when Irish and Libyans and other terrorists conspired together with training and funding and propping up. Very difficult to imagine that today. Also very difficult to predict that a geographically fragmented Palestine ever can aspire to a modern economy without assistance, so Hamas probably feels safe in a populace that blames Israel, a perception bolstered by current events.
