I actually DO give a damn what MDs think.

Imagine a law that was unpopular with the majority of software developers (including you). And someone said, "I don't give a damn what software developers think about the law". The statement would be self-evidently absurd. Why is it somehow acceptable with doctors?

I guess it's always safe to denounce the rich. Everyone will help you - sometimes, the rich first.
