John,
This one has been killing me for the last several months. I have been shipping commercial software for several years using Fox and VFP and eat, breathe and sleep fox code. I have been trying to trace this issue down and I have clients crashing using IE4 on Win95 and without IE4. I don't believe that IE4 or DCOM is the issue yet. I even crash about 10-15 times per day now since I installed VS6. I am glad to see that other VFP developers are getting the same problem and it's not just me. This needs to get fixed ASAP though. It's hard to produce good solid apps when the tool has problems. I have recompiled on lots of my apps completely and the problem has still not gone away. It seems to be very random. I have even made sure that my clients had all of the latest DLL's from the VS6 SP1 release. They ran for about a week with only 2 crashes, but they still had 2 crashes by end of week with the C0000005 error. I believe this is the new way of handling errors from what MS said at DEVCON about the new Error Handling. Instead of GPFing tell the customer Fatal Exception. It's new! It's Different!
Seriously I think it's a memory leak of some kind. Any other ideas welcome. Has Randy Brown or anyone else at MS been notified of this problem. It is really getting my customers ticked and me too!
