>Seriously Kevin, listen to how some of your peers talk to or about the women around them.
OK, clearly you have been working in some bad environments, and I am truly sorry. I don't dispute for a minute that those work environments exist.
By coincidence, I found out last week that a former student of mine just sued her employer for sexual harassment and the details are really ugly. I hate it when adults can't act like adults.
Anyone who knows me knows that I pay close attention to how people interact with others. It's really just a personal hobby - I like to sit back and watch people talk to (or at) each other. I've seen men act in a patronizing manner towards women, and I've seen women do the same to men and to other women.
When I broke into the industry in 1987 and 1988 I ran into a few managers who didn't like me at all and tried to influence others into thinking I was (essentially) just an inexperienced punk. Ran into other forms of bigoted thinking later. It sucks. But there's only one way to fight them - prove 'em wrong.
