I need to be able to enter data while this general field is being viewed and to be able to move the general field window around so that data can be entered anywhere on the main screen. I do not need the capability to edit the general field.

Is the data window useing up the whole foxpro screen? Is so you could define the general picture window in the data window. This would prevent the general field from disapear when editing the data. If you include the general field in with the read [ie: READ WITH datawin, genwin] you might be able to access them both at the same time. I haven't tried this though.
