>Mike, I'm actually amazed. JR's tone with Mike Beane up here has always been one of gently placating/assuaging, and you're characterizing JR as being self-righteous on the subject. JR isn't telling Mike Beane (or anyone else) to live like a choir boy.

That's why I asked, is society setting the standard of absolute sobriety on this person? We don't have to be conscious of what we're doing. We might have the best intentions.

But it's also become a trend in society, look at Dr. Phil and Dr. Drew and Intervention. There are problems in society, and our solution is to slap some artificial state of being on people who are already having a tough time, and then tell them how disappointed we are when they don't meet those standards. All to make us feel better about our own habits and now for reality television entertainment.

How easy is it for someone not in that situation to say "just do what we want you to do"?

We ask for complete sobriety, then we get a day, then a month, then he takes a drink, and we take that all away. Every good day wiped off the record because of one day they decide to cut loose. What does that kind of accomplishment being completely erased due to the mind of someone in that never ending cycle?

Some people have a problem with substances. How society deals with that individual might also have some problems too.
