>What type of treatment are you suggesting for Beane? I'm not entirely convinced it really matters to you, because you believe the medical community has it handled. Very few ask for anything but absolute sobriety.
This analogy might not fit, but I'll throw it out anyway.
My brother developed severe shellfish allergies in his early 30's. Going back to his teen years, he ate shrimp, crab legs, lobster tail, etc. like crazy. But then he started having severe reactions - I witnessed some of them and I thought he was going to die.
So my brother can't eat a bite of the stuff or he'll get very sick. It's 100% avoiding some of the foods he used to love, or getting so sick that he's out of commission for days. Well, he runs a company and has a wife and a daughter. So he has to make a choice.
Yeah, it sucks for him - I can eat King Crab legs and he can't.
And yeah, it sucks that many people can drink a few beers and be able to stop, yet some people (for whatever reason) can't just stop at a few. Sad for those people but they have to choose.
When a person becomes a parent they're often a parent (in different ways) for life. Sorry to be preachy but it's called responsibility.
