>>There's an untold story of fatalities I think you can contribute in part to a process referred to today as "professional help", which we're likely to look back at as "really messed up."
IMHO you're pursuing a "false cause" fallacy in which people who die have been to rehab, so naughty rehab for causing death. That's like saying that people who die of cancer have had chemotherapy so chemotherapy is the cause.
>>What type of treatment are you suggesting for Beane? I'm not entirely convinced it really matters to you, because you believe the medical community has it handled. Very few ask for anything but absolute sobriety.
I'm not suggesting any type of treatment. A man admits he has an issue and describes intention to seek professional help. People say "good" and encourage him, or offer incentives for when he comes out the other end. That's it. The rest of this stuff comes from you.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
