Roosevelt said "In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing."

Seems to me there are a lot of people out there who tolerated the worst thing in healthcare funding for decades and now want to attack Obama because they say he did the wrong thing. Some of the detractors now will get their chance, so lets see how that works out.

>>Getting it passed became more important than:
>>A. Writing a law that was clearly understood by the majority of the people
>>B. Making sure that it had the support of the majority of the people.
>>C. Writing a law that actually solved the problem at hand.

You're right- faced with the decision between the worst thing and the wrong thing, perhaps there was some expedience.

If detractors succeed in overturning the wrong thing so they can revert to the worst thing, it is the people who will pay the price. Some may call it Socialist for politicians to believe they know best- but sometimes they do. In this case, it's already very late to start the needed reform and if it gets stifled, you should expect that before long the wheels will come off quicker than the Berlin wall came down.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
