>Wow... that's quite behind Europe. Four years ago, when we returned here, there were still a few card readers which could read the strip, and I've seen a few operators swipe a card when the chip reader wouldn't take it - but generally I can't remember if I saw a swipe-only reader anywhere.

Even Swipe cards are becoming old hat - more and more contactless card readers appearing here. Most of my cards already have the functionality built in.
