>>I wonder if you, as a native Spanish speaker, when reading an article like this (translated from English) have a feeling that the article _is translated_ from another language?

>Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, I guess it depends on the translator. Also its been more than 15 years since I left Argentina, so now I cannot speak two languages!

If you need a refresher Spanish, just let me know :)

>>When I watch an American movie dubbed in Spanish, with my not-native Spanish, I can "feel" that the original words actors say were not in Spanish. It bothers me to watch these American movies in Spanish as it is some kind of "ersatz" Spanish. I was just wondering how to see these things.

>I avoid dubbing like the plague, not only Spanish, any language, in particular watching Chinese movies in English is, I am positive about this, one of the modern form of Chinese torture, but I do not think is just because of the language, voice is part of the actors job, and who knows who is behind the dubbing? it might very well not even be an actor. One of the best examples (I know, I know, there are many, but Michael is my favourite actor after all) is Michael Caine in Dirty Rotten Scroundels, where he changes his accent and way of speak according to the character he is impersonating, when watched in Spanish... well the "actor" forgot about it completely, which takes a lot out of the movie. While not perfect, give me subtitles any time over dubbing

I think your dubbing "problem" is due to the fact that you understand native English. I am sure if you were to ask one of your fellow Argentinians who live in Argentina and have zero knowledge in English, they will probably (I am guessing) have a different option of dubbing.

I should check out this movie with Michael Caine; don't remember seeing it.
