By some theories, just the stress of being in a strange environment is enough to destabilize your health. Change of your daily rhythm, having to abide by a whole new set of rules (what you dress to sleep, how you sleep, what and when you eat, smoke, drink, take a leak), strange noise, presence/absence of TV and other entertainment etc etc. Just for kicks (or call it science), put a healthy person for a few days in there and keep an eye on his health...
