This former NY'er spent a lot of time in White Plains when IBM had a large presence there (I might be there this this year helping a client's client.)
Besides going south to NYC, you can go east to Long Island sound or north to western CT and MA. The Berkshires are a wonderful place to vacation. You might find more classical music than jazz there, I'm afraid.
2015 is looking good here in NJ, too.
