>>Not much.
>>That's why I'm out of there in 20 minutes.
>>My point is that what the MD deems to be "necessary" is more a function of what he can collect for it than its efficacy.

Alternatively, perhaps MDs are like the mainstream media in that they pitch services to the expectation of the consumers- how could they do otherwise and stay in business? IME a lot of your countryfolk equate pin-cushion tests and probing in every imaginable respect as a proxy for quality.

>>There is no limit to what these voodoo practitioners will try to persuade people that they "need."

Ask yourself what you would do as a physician whose practice risks destruction if a patient has an adverse result and an ambulance-chaser discovers that an available box on an order form was not checked. And have you ever faced a fierce family demanding every imaginable test and therapy for grandma who has had a catastrophic stroke and is unlikely ever to regain consciousness? Patients and their families are not sacks of wheat and nor are you.
FWIW, US physicians are weary of the medical politics and tribulations with growing numbers walking away from private practice to become employees insulated from all of this. Perhaps you've not yet seen what happens when the bureaucrats and politicians are left in charge of the asylum- but that's what you are wishing for.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
