Pardon me for jumping in here late. I have several white papers on my web site (the Technical Papers page of http://doughennig.com) that go into detail about error handling, including the latest, "Fix Problems Fast with Advanced Error Handling and Instrumentation Techniques", which I presented at the German DevCon in 2013. This white paper shows how to mix Error methods, ON ERROR routines, and TRY/CATCH and includes an explanation of why an Error method will catch an error instead of CATCH.
