>Perhaps because their birth control failed (my husband has a daughter who is living proof that the pill is only 98% effective) and their access to safe abortion has been removed by various legislatures? Maybe their families/religion precluded "taking care of the problem". Or are you one of those "just don't have sex" people? Could you, back in the day of little money, no transportation, no insurance, have afforded the 200 mile trip to a clinic for a 'consultation', then return 2 - 3 days later for the actual procedure?

I agree with you.
It's for this very reason that I generally don't support the Republican party and why I don't consider myself a conservative. While I personally don't like abortion, I go along with the Bill Clinton line that it should be "safe, legal, and rare". It infuriates me when people in the Republican party push these heartbeat/personhood bills.. I have no problem with restrictions after 6 months or even after 20 weeks and I also don't believe in federal funding - but aside from that, it should be "safe, legal, and rare".
