>On that score alone, he gets a first round KO of Mitch.
The Chappaquiddick incident alone tells you all you need to know about his core character.
On the career end, Kennedy exemplified the Hillary Clinton style, "economic fairness for thee, not for me".
He railed against tax breaks for large corporations, but fought for tax exemptions for oil companies where his family had ownership.
He also was involved in creating trusts/foundations to shield his family's wealth from the IRS, even though he pushed hard for estate taxes.
And then there's his push for "No Child Left Behind" and Medicare Part D, both of which were incredibly expensive and where the outcome didn't justify the huge cost to state and local budgets. I think even most liberals who supported those would like to forget how bad those pieces of legislation were.
His antics during the Robert Bork issue were very immature and tasteless and unfounded. And then there were his proposals to Soviet dictator Andropov during the Reagan era, proposals that nearly bordered on treason.
Yeah, some record. :)
