I'm surprised that you seem to have digested the big lie that the existence of WMD in Iraq meant that we should go in and slaughter hundreds of thousands of innocent people.
WMD or not, we had no business invading that country. Those WMD (see - I'm caught up in the fantasy now) could not possibly have threatened us- Condi Rice's mushroom cloud notwithstanding.
That army couldn't land a scud missile in Israel during Desert Storm.

When an appeal to fear is repeated often enough it becomes a fact.
The Ebola nonsense was a good recent example and we're nearly seeing one with the vaccination fiasco.
Probably the greatest example of how far irrational fear can take people was the MX missile.
It was just insane.
