>>>eBooks are fine for casual reading, but for things I want to keep, I want physical books. We own thousands and while I buy a lot fewer than I used to (mostly using the library these days), we haven't stopped acquiring books.

Seems to me Kindle Unlimited is similar to belonging to the public library except you're paying $9.99 per month for the privilege.

To me, one of the big advantages of paper books is the ability to hand them to someone else. I guess I particularly feel that since I'm the only one in the immediate family with an e-reader. I bought mine before our last European vacation when I realized that I could bring all the books I wanted along without taking up any space in the suitcase. I had the Nook with what they call "glowlight"; that was a big sell for me for the trip, too, because I sleep very poorly on planes and it meant I could read without turning on the overhead light.

Over time, I've found that another big advantage for me is when going to the gym or a doctor's appointment, not having to worry about the fact that I'm almost at the end of one book and might finish while I'm out.

That said, I still read on paper as well.
