LOL, take your pick. In VFP there's the requirement to turn off Themes e.g. in Grid headers to show colored block GUI that was thought so old-fashioned when shading and textured controls were introduced. Aero and other features were the last gasp of decoration that made people say "wow" the first time they saw it, but actually didn't make the apps easier to use.
FWIW it's quite easy to do Metro GUI in VFP utilizing Marlett font, flat icon pngs and non-themed controls. 3D check boxes are the obvious outlier since they seem to insist on shading.
