In VFP there's the requirement to turn off Themes e.g. in Grid headers to show colored block GUI that was thought so old-fashioned when shading and textured controls were introduced. Aero and other features were the last gasp of decoration that made people say "wow" the first time they saw it, but actually didn't make the apps easier to use.
