I'm not a fan of Perry, though I think he's a slightly better man than some give him credit for - and those charges against him are very specious (so much so that I've even seen liberal blogs that have opined that the charges don't have much teeth and appear to be political payback)

Also - and I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong - I don't believe the indictment against Perry was a Federal indictment. It was a Travis County Grand Jury that handed down the indictments. They were felony indictments but not federal. Even Eric Holder and the DOJ at the time had more sense not to get involved.
