Sure 3rd party web developers want it, and also-ran OS vendors want it because it improves their lot- but they have no control unless Google and Apple agree to cede it. Why would they?


It's very simple - if they put out a platform and nobody codes to it they are screwed.
Developers have a lot of power to drive direction.
