>I vacationed in Hawaii (WOW it was great) and discovered that Captain Cook was not the first European to visit the Islands. After reading the road signs and hearing the names I came to the conclusion the a Polish team of explorers must have visited the Islands a couple of centuries earlier. Having nothing much of value to trade they decided to give almost all their vowels to the Hawaiians and in return got almost all the consonants.

hahaha yep the Hawaiian alphabet:

A, E, I, O, U, H, K, L, M, N, P, W

All words end in a vowel.
Every consonant is followed by at least one vowel.
Every syllable ends in a vowel.
Two consonants never appear next to each other.

..so only 12 letters. Well 13 if you count the ʻokina - which is confusing as it can change the whole meaning of the word.
kai = sea
kaʻi = to lead

Sadly it's kind of a dying language, but people here are trying to teach it to new generations in recent years.
