>>Not that it is any of your business, but our house was not really in Akron. It was in a suburb on the outskirt of Akron even though it was zoned as being in Akron. The builder of the development cut a deal with the city so that the city employees (who at the time had to live inside the city limits) would have nice places to live.

No it's not my business, and nor was I calling you a liar. I wanted to make the point that what we (I) see out my window is not necessarily the truth for everybody else.

Many youngsters calculate that to buy a house in the parents' suburb now will cost 50 X the average income. Perhaps the message should be that whinging about suburb is like whinging about that Ferrari you really want. Lower your sights to what you can afford. Especially in 2015 when you don't necessarily need to be in an office in a particular town. I know a woman who works for UK law firm Denton and big US lawyers to proof read their submissions for grammar. She was in NZ last week and is in Texas this week. People with that sort of job might like to check out Akron rather than Malibu. People who can't afford Akron might consider Indianapolis South where I was astonished to see 4 bedroom places on full sites for less than $50K. And so it goes on. In this respect I agree with you: no point sitting in a darkened room moping over unfairness, perfect is the enemy of good so get out there and make it happen.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
