Current generation is well past discussing whether gender is a component of competence (gender isn't relevant and if it were it would favor the females) and cheerfully accepts that until such time as men can carry a baby, equal opportunity to have a family and the scientific fact that "mother" means a lot in early child rearing requires that women have different needs and that's just the way it is. People will laugh if you suggest that equality means competing on a playing field that assumes you have a wife. Of course sometimes people express themselves badly and you'll still find the usual bigots and over-sensitive types of both genders, but normalized sexism hasn't been an issue for well over a generation.

Katy loves animals and maybe a career as a vet could be in the future.

Who knows....but I'm serious....and this isn't a matter of anger or betrayal of an industry that I've made my career from (and overall a rather lucrative one)....I have no interest in encouraging my kid towards this general line of work.
