In less than one second you can find just as many (actually jore) examples of where a licensed gun owner lost a family member because they had a gun in the house. There is even a member here which this sadly happened too.

I think that is true for certain areas (like middle of no where Wyoming or something) - where its going to take a cop an hour to get to your house if you make a call for help. I kinda doubt that you're going to find the NYC police think it's a good idea to put some more guns on the street. Furthermore the odds of something bad happening as a result of the gun in your house is better than the odds of the gun in your house helping you.
