>>In this instance, the president admitted in a health care summit back in 2010 (covered by C-SPAN) that somewhere between five to nine million people would lose their plans. This occurred chronologically between instances where he gave his famous "if you like your plan/doctor" speech. If this is not a whopper of a lie, then I don't know what is.

Sheesh, Kevin. Context matters! In this case, for millions of employees who qualify for subsidies: there were and are better plans in the exchanges than were available from the employer plan. They "lost" their plans because it was cheaper for small employers and employees to get better plans on the exchanges. It's not intellectually honest to use words like "lose" and "lie" to describe competent Americans harnessing better options for themselves. Even if insurers did choose to defy Obama and close down some employer plans- for many small employers the options via the exchanges tend to be better and in fact the insurers made this very point.

>>As far as the "if you like your doctor" line, that was an even bigger one. The narrowing of networks has gotten ridiculous. Look at the recent news of Blue Cross Blue Shield in Houston, Texas (fourth largest city in the U.S.) - starting in 2016 they won't be offering individual PPO plans. There's also the question of what existing plans will be grandfathered in. People are already receiving cancellation notices. This means many will have to go the HMO route - which, given the narrowing network problem, is a nightmare for those with health issues that require specialists (an issue both in my immediate and extended family).

What, you're saying that Obama made the devil do it? If he had brought in legislation to force the insurers to honor these expectations the hollering accusations of communist, muslim terrorist, liar and fascist would have been audible on Mars. Perhaps the insurers prefering to advantage their shareholders over their policyholders is an argument for more legislation as it is for other public good elements.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
