" If people really want to characterize such statements as lies then we're surrounded by liars re the ACA. "
JR, we've been over this before.
I am careful on using the word "lie". I don't use it when someone turns out to be wrong, even grossly or incompetently wrong.
However, where it CAN be used is when a person states a specific position, where there's physical evidence that the person demonstrated they know it's not true.
In this instance, the president admitted in a health care summit back in 2010 (covered by C-SPAN) that somewhere between five to nine million people would lose their plans. This occurred chronologically between instances where he gave his famous "if you like your plan/doctor" speech. If this is not a whopper of a lie, then I don't know what is.
And I've stated this before - in 2012 and again in 2013, multiple sources reported that his policy advisors told him to knock it off with the "if you like your plan" speech, because they knew it was B.S. However, his campaign advisors told him to keep running with the line. And it was a line.
As far as the "if you like your doctor" line, that was an even bigger one. The narrowing of networks has gotten ridiculous. Look at the recent news of Blue Cross Blue Shield in Houston, Texas (fourth largest city in the U.S.) - starting in 2016 they won't be offering individual PPO plans. There's also the question of what existing plans will be grandfathered in. People are already receiving cancellation notices. This means many will have to go the HMO route - which, given the narrowing network problem, is a nightmare for those with health issues that require specialists (an issue both in my immediate and extended family).
