I'm not religious at all, so I feel no need to get validation from any priest or rabbi or anything like that. In my case I think I'm a better person for not being married. Lucky for me I have girlyfriend that is ok with not getting hitched.
To me, the point of being married is to declare to your family and friends (and, of course, to each other) that you're in it for the long haul. That is, that when things are bad, you'll work together to make them better rather than call it quits.
