If you're no longer getting Windows Updates, check its settings in Control Panel. If it's set to not do any updates, and you're unable to change the setting, that's a common sign of a malware infection. One exception to that might be if your computer is domain-joined and updates are tightly controlled and only manually applied across the domain.

Protip: if you can't get Windows Update to work, phone support from Microsoft for that issue is always free. I believe that's true even if you have an OEM machine (Dell, Lenovo etc.).
