>>Critical thinking does sometimes lead to unexpected results.
Ouchy. ;-)
At the risk of fanning flames: are these "fundamental values" ethics or morals? ;-)
Lets not forget that the philosophers might insist that these are more likely to be subjective attitudes, outright errors or descriptions of emotive states rather than some sort of fundamental truth. Unless people believe in God of course, in which case morality can be declared as fundamental (or absolute or objective) rather than subjective. ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
