As Tore points out they're useful in the VFP IDE, they remember stuff like positions/sizes of editing windows, the last method window if you edit a class then save/close with method window(s) open etc. Basically little things that make life easier.

But, if those files get corrupted somehow all kinds of weird stuff can happen.
