>I did a complete install of VFP6 with the IE4 option on a Win95 machine. I am getting the C0000005 error in VFP and it is my understanding that the DCOM98 will fix at least some of the conditions under which this error occurs.
The DCOM fix does not apply generally to all C0000005 errors; it addresses -
exactly- one situation; that is, when running a VFP6 compiled executable with an entry in CONFIG.FPW
SCREEN=OFF or
_SCREEN.Visible = .F., and then, after enabling the screen by setting
_SCREEN.Visible = .T. within the application, on termination, a C0000005 error occurs in some circumstances when running under under Win95. DCOM only fixes this problem on systems running Win95 -
without- IE4 or any version of DCOM installed; the problem only really surfaced in my testing on Win95 systems that preceded OSR2 release 2.1, since by default the 2.5 install included DCOM support.
If you are getting this error running VFP in development mode, the DCOM fix that I've documented does not address the issue at all. The error involves the runtime environment, not the development environment AFAIK (I have never started VFP 6 in development mode with
SCREEN=OFF in my development CONFIG.FPW file.)
Please realize that operating system errors can be caused by a wide range of problems, and that solutions for one error C0000005 error won't have anything o do with another; the C0000005 is an indication of an oeprating system-level exception of very broad scope.

>>Rather than DCOM98, you can download the latest DCOM95 (version 1.2) which contains the updated Win95 DCOM components from Microsoft's Web site - it will provide the DCOM functionality needed for Win95 boxes that you don't intend to load with IE4 (the other simple way to get DCOM support.)
>>
>>Win98 contains the DCOM support as a part of its base install (as a result of IE 4.0 being installed as a base part of the operating system.) NT needs SP3 or SP4 installed.
