>Why did they say anything? Who asks a pizza shop to cater a wedding? I think they spoke out to get attention (presumably to get more business from those who agreed with them) and never considered that it cuts both ways, especially in this era of social media.

Tamar, I suggest you read up on the story of "Memories Pizza". It is the quintessential story of tactics of the political left.
A local TV reporter went into "Memories Pizza" (and other shops as well) to ask shop owners what they thought of Indiana's RFRA Act.
There's absolutely no evidence that the pizza shop intentionally sought out the interview to make a statement and seek more business. I'm tempted to say that the pizza shop probably didn't need to make the comments they made, but they absolutely did not deserve the unlawful actions that followed.
Given all the other evidence, it's more likely that the reporter was fishing for anyone to say something negative about same sex marriage.
I agree, pizza shops are not exactly the first source of food for a wedding.
