>>Everything I've ever heard indicates that in general, getting parents into the building is a win. But we should design such programs so that kids who are already "others" in some way aren't reminded once again of their otherness.
In fairness, there's also good evidence that kids do better in most respects if biological dad is around. Seems to me there's a tension between "inclusiveness" and normalization of paths to worse results.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
