I haven't lost hope - though events over the last few years are alarming. Ayn Rand once said that the only time to "give up", and for the "men of the mind to go on strike", is when the government formally established a censorship. We're not there (yet)
There is no question that every administration has power issues, truth spins, and corruption. But this administration has been far worse than the last several combined.
For all of the issues over the last nearly 8 years, by far and away the most alarming is the IRS issue. There is substantial proof that the DNC and a handful of Democratic Senators/Reps were involved in serious targeting of conservatives/Tea Party members.
(And believe me, I wouldn't put it past Trump's flunkees or Hillary's people to do the same thing, if given the chance).
That issue should force Washington to take a good hard look at everything related to the scandal (and it was a very real scandal). It should start with the concept of the Fifth Amendment. The original history of the 5th was (in part) to protect citizens from being coerced into confessions/being railroaded by the government. In this case, the individual taking the fifth "was" the government, who arguably was involved in criminal activity against private citizens.
