There has just been an attempted coup and the the government has a duty to secure order. Heavy handed? I agree the presentation in the Western MSM makes it seem that way, but have you checked out what US statutes set as punishment for treason, sedition, rebellion or even merely advocating the overthrow of government? FWIW, the US penalty for treason is death. But predictably the EU and NATO have come out opposing reintroduction of the same penalty in Turkey, the typical "do as I say, not as I do" Western posturing that so annoys citizens and leaders of other nations.

Seems to me that order prevails in Turkey and it's early days. It remains to be seen what will happen to those scooped up in a wide net after an attempted military coup. For example, I doubt the Courts can function if there are no experienced judges and my "pick" is that once culprits are confirmed, the rest will be free- and probably will stick up for the need for their own detention. So lets wait and see.
