I agree the presentation in the Western MSM makes it seem that way, but have you checked out what US statutes set as punishment for treason, sedition, rebellion or even merely advocating the overthrow of government? FWIW, the US penalty for treason is death. But predictably the EU and NATO have come out opposing reintroduction of the same penalty in Turkey, the typical "do as I say, not as I do" Western posturing that so annoys citizens and leaders of other nations.
