Sorry, what kind of viewer you have used for filenames checking ? A lot of viewers (and DOS ZIP itself) doesn't support long filenames. You must try Wndows-viewer or WinZip.
BTW, about $ at the end of extention - even the filename with >8 symbols will look pretty good in extention. You must check left part of filename.
