Of course. If Trump had made one or only a few gaffes, he'd be entitled to the benefit of the doubt. But he has a 40+ year history of racism. Here's a good summary: http://www.vox.com/2016/7/25/12270880/donald-trump-racism-history.

Also, one of his claimed value propositions is that he's bring in "the best people." Yet his campaign has been and continues to be a mess. His current campaign CEO runs a website that he (the CEO) specifically has identified as "a platform for the alt-right."

In 2008, Hillary Clinton was rightly slammed for her campaign being poorly run. By contrast, Obama's was "no drama." This year, Hillary's campaign is running smoothly with few hiccups, but Trump's is a mess. If the campaign is about evaluating leadership potential, the contrast is pretty clear.
