IIRC, we did the same, but needed to also set tabstop = .f. on all the controls to keep the off-screen form from getting focus.

Looong time (vfp6..) ago we had sometimes issues with invisible forms and instead of going to the bottom by debugging and fixing, we went with moving the forms off-screen to manipulate without the user seeing them. Worth a quick try if form.visible = .f. results in problems and budget is limited
