Yes Marcia. Industries in the UK killed off by economics and that darling of the right Margaret Thatcher. >
>I already know that you are a rabid labor supporter and hate anything that is Tory, but I think that you are over-simplifying the industrial decline of the UK. True, Thatcher was an open market capitalist and so reversed Heath's decision to nationalize companies like Rolls Royce but that was just a small detail in the process. Labor also had a huge roll in killing manufacturing in the UK:

>It is such a shame that the birthplace of the industrial revolution is now an industrial ghost town.
There are two sides to everything though. Chronic underinvestment by companies happy to pay out dividends to shareholders was and still is a huge problem in the UK. Uk workers are low on productivity measures not because they are lazy or left wing wreckers but becauase they are using outdated techniques and equipment and UK industry thrives on a low pay mentality. Workers are cheap and easily disposed of equipment is expensive and needs a long term view.
