>Hello my friend, it is a long time since I have been on this forum.

Wow, here's a blast from the past. I hope you didn't have to brush off too many cobwebs off the link to find your way here :).

>When it comes to language, I speak the American form of the English language, German, Castilian, and a bit of Irish Gaelic. Now when it comes to language, from my limited experience I consider English to be the superior language of business and law. You see, the ambiguity which is normally encountered is excellent when it comes to deception and ignorance. If what you state has six different meanings then it is not unusual. If you must, allow the attorneys and courts to decide upon the meaning.

Which is already happening - the english becoming the lingua franca of business of Europe and elsewhere, and nobody knows how much money is lost or made on ambiguity. I remember I once lost a whole hour trying to understand "server banking" - for which I was supposed to build a form - and I didn't even expect the customers to have so many servers (and wouldn't that be called clustering then, eh?), even some did have lots of widely distributed workstations across a wide area. But no, the servers in the case were, well, waiters. And the banking was to take a cumulative count of their tips and calculate the kitchen's share when shift ends.

>Microsoft uses “me”, and Apple uses “i”. Both are after your dollar!

Which is why I have only Windows, Fox and SQL server from the former, and not even an apple peel from the latter. One of the daughters, though, went to the dark, ahem, white side and has several iThings in various sizes. At least she uses them for work.

>If you want to “enjoy” the English language, then you should have to deal with speakers from India. We had a number of H1B's write technical documents and “on line help” for some of our applications.

You should have seen a piece of translation of such a text. "Loading program into memory" came out as, in serbian, "shoveling program into remembrance". Too bad that's the only pearl I remember, the rest was worse.

>Tom - AKA Silicon Valley Tom, enjoying retirement and playing musical instruments

I'm retiring gradually, taking more days off during the year - tending to my garden, making brandy, having as much fun as (still copious) fox work permits.
