Controversial. Can't be sure whether he has a cunning plan to wear the opposition out (paraphrasing Boris) exhausting the wells of outrage, or whether he's just forging ahead and damn the torpedoes, or whether his advisors are inept.

I think it is the answer to the question "Will Trump change after he becomes president?" The answer is "No".

FWIW, I can't agree with everything done, or more particularly the way it is communicated. E.g. allowing the opposition party to concoct a "Muslim ban" when the vast majority of Muslim nations are not affected, should have been predictable and could have been headed off by a pre-emptive tweet e.g. "I agree with President Obama that some nations harbor terrorists. Lets not just talk about it... lets make sure we are keeping them out. Meanwhile decent citizens of friendly Muslim and non-Muslim nations are part of the American dream and are always welcome."

How hard is that? Instead they use terms like "extreme vetting" that are too easily redefined as extreme unfairness. Even the Pope weighed in.

I agree with you. When the executive order was first implemented, I thought that it was handled poorly. To be honest, IMHO, I think that a lot of mistakes were made by ICE. Who detains a green card holder? If they have a green card, they have already been extremely vetted. I know. Andy had a green card before he became a citizen.

Historically the US public has been very tolerant of risk mitigation and there is precedent. For example, citizens of most Western nations can visit the US for up to 90 days without a Visa under the ESTA program introduced by the Obama administration in 2009. It's basically a website application, pay $14 and you're free to come in and out for 2 years. Citizens of other nations require more "extreme" vetting including in-person interviews. That's risk mitigation at work. Since then, the Obama administration identified a handful of riskier nations known to harbor terrorists. So what's wrong with implementing another tier of risk mitigation. It's been presented badly by the new administration allowing the opposition party to call it a ban and stir up more protest.

I agree with you again. Call Ripley. However, I also believe that the opposition party is behaving badly. For example, they will not confirm the president's cabinet. They complain because the State department is a ghost town but they refuse to confirm a Secretary of State. IMHO, the country is suffering because of the obstructionist opposition party.
