>> Somewhat less in the public eye is the fact that this action was breaking existing laws WITHOUT even parliametary vetting

Germany's insistence on free movement across borders also means that the migrant policy for the whole EU, now is set by Germany. So far Switzerland (that agreed to EU border policies despite not being in the EU) and the UK have rebelled- as well as Hungary that's barely mentioned in MSM outside Europe. Curiously, in 2014-2015 Hungary refused to cooperate with the mandated EU immigrant allocation scheme, instead building a razor wire wall on its Sebian/Croatian border to keep illegals out... and in 2016 Hungary began work on an additional "Great Wall of Europe" to keep the Muslim illegals out. People who think Trump is rude ought to look up some of the things PM Orban has to say about EU apparatchiks! Yet he gets to build his wall and enjoys cordial relations and alliances with Merkel and other European leaders who denounce Trump. Figure that one out.

As an aside: during the current conflict, Syria's economy was smashed via severe sanctions from numerous countries including the USA, Japan, Turkey and the Arab League. I believe the intended target was Assad, but as usual these processes were conducted without common ground with the likes of Russia and Iran who supported Assad. Sure enough, he not only survived the sanctions but looks to emerge victorious and more closely aligned with Russia and Iran, unlike the poor civilian population that was smashed and fled in droves. The idea that they fled conflict is only part of it; they also fled starvation and lack of necessities of life from the smashed economy. So perhaps at some point the MSM will observe that if some countries effectively executed "scorched earth" policies in Syria following the exact same failed policies tried on Saddam Hussein with the same outcome... then those countries ought to take responsibility for the resulting refugees and the cost of re-establishing previous prosperity after conflict finally is stamped out. I think Japan agrees which is why they're proposing truly enormous contribution to solving the plight of these displaced unfortunates. Trump probably could satisfy more reasonable detractors by following suit...
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
