>>BTW here's an interesting piece about devos and education

How can this be? One moment the MSM headlines denouncements that she has no experience or expertise in education. The next, they criticize her involvement in education reform for over a decade.

Which is it? There's fake news afoot somewhere!

Worse, quoting from your citation (my emphasis:)

20 years after Michigan’s charter school experiment began, Detroit’s charter schools have shown themselves to be only incrementally stronger, on average, than traditional public schools. They have admirable graduation rates, but test scores that look nearly identical to those of public schools.

Oh, the horror?

And this is why the use of test scores to focus on performance snap-shots rather than growth/improvement, is about to be scrapped. Just as you need to prove a drug by comparing to placebo rather than "wow this makes me feel great!" , you need to compare the schools deVos supports to what was there before and where it was going. If public schooling had delivered entrenched poor performance dooming students to generational poverty, has trying something different started to lift students out of this? From provided data, I simply cannot say and am not prepared to accept the "take it from me" assurances of MSM reporters that deVos has no experience/ I mean is very naughty. Let them show some actual data and if I want an editorial, I'll seek it out.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
