>If you liked Dawn of the Dead then World War Z is worth a look. Actually tries to maintain a credible story line with plenty going on and believable characters. I found the loss of Jerusalem absolutely chilling.

>Something else that might appeal, is the Resident Evil series, though only peripherally a zombie genre. Seen any of those? The final in the series was released in January 2017 but I think the first I saw was the 2010 Resident Evil: Afterlife, which is quite a good place to start. The first few minutes can give unwarned viewers a heck of a fright, so it's not one for a family movie night!

The RE series is true to its roots as a video game. Alice is a bio-engineered kick-ass superwoman. She knows no fear, but that limits the range of her character. Every movie in the franchise is basically Another Particularly Shitty Day At The Office.

Take her "sacrifice" at the end of the latest installment. Now compare it to Ripley's in Alien3: when the adult alien finally has her trapped and helpless, is literally right in her face... but doesn't kill her. The horror when we find out what that has to mean, and what she must do. IMO that cements her place as one of the toughest characters in fiction of any kind.
